BCBio senior presents research at this spring’s ISU Symposium on Undergraduate Research & Creative Expression May 11, 2011 Reka Keleman, a senior in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCBio), gave an oral presentation at the ISU Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creative Expression held in the ISU Memorial Union on April 19, 2011. The BCBio undergraduate major requires students to do an independent research project for credit during their senior year. Reka’s independent research project was mentored by Professor Carolyn Lawrence, a GDCB collaborating professor working for the USDA. Reka’s oral presentation on her research, entitled “Using CViT to Visualize Maps Inferred by the Morgan2McClintock Translator,” was presented in the Biology and Bioinformatics session moderated by GDCB Professor and LAS Associate Dean, David Oliver. The Symposium provides undergraduates from all academic disciplines with an opportunity to share their research with the university community and other guests through conference-style oral presentations. The Symposium represents part of a larger effort of Iowa State University to enhance, support, and celebrate undergraduate research activity. Though coordinated by the University Honors Program, all undergraduate students are eligible and encouraged to participate in the Symposium. Undergraduates conducting research but not yet ready to present their work are encouraged to attend the Symposium to learn about the presentation process and students not currently involved in research are encouraged to attend the Symposium to learn about the broad range of undergraduate research activities that are taking place at ISU.
